Secure custody transfer of all firearms in the estate.

Comprehensive inventory intake, including photos, serials, and condition reports.

Secure storage of all NFA firearms to prevent unauthorized access.

Valuation & pricing of each item (market-based, with appraisal if required).

Marketing & brokerage to vetted buyers, maximizing estate proceeds.

ATF-compliant transfer & disposition for each NFA item.

Secure and compliant packaging, shipping, and logistics to buyer.

Final estate settlement & closeout package delivered to Executor.

Our Process

Estate Creation
We begin by formally documenting the estate’s NFA inventory. We use this inventory to verify NFRTR status with the ATF, confirming that all firearms are legally registered and available to sell. This verification process establishes the baseline legality and value for the collection.

Custody Transfer
Firearms are transferred into Guardian’s licensed custody, removing liability from the Executor or family while ensuring compliance with ATF requirements. We coordinate packaging and transportation of the collection to our secure vault.

Inventory Intake
Each firearm is cataloged with photographs, serial numbers, and condition notes. We prepare a complete record suitable for both probate and potential buyers.

Valuation & Pricing
We provide estate valuations based on real market data, with optional third-party appraisals. We provide pricing guidance to maximize return while ensuring timely disposition.

Marketing & Sale
Guardian prepares each firearm for sale. We coordinate professional photography, expert copy, and a detailed marketing plan for each item. You get access to our full network of qualified buyers, brokers, collectors, and auctions — allowing us to secure strong offers while maintaining discretion. Prospective buyers are vetted and qualified offers are presented to the estate for consideration.

Transfer & Compliance
Every transfer is completed through proper ATF channels, with Guardian handling all required Form 3/4/5 submissions, storage, and oversight.

Item-by-Item Disposition
Once ATF approval is given, we coordinate buyer FFL/SOT qualification, escrow of buyer funds, final packaging, insured shipping, and tracking. Upon each successful delivery, we provide the estate with a certificate of sale as proof of disposition and the net proceed of the sale.

Estate Settlement & Closeout
We provide the Executor with a final settlement packet, including contract and authorization termination letters, certification of liquidation, and a final closeout report.

How We Compare

High Risk / Poor Mixed / Moderate Best / Preferred

Compliance Risk

Self-Service

High — executor handles ATF transfers & lawful storage; errors can create civil/criminal exposure.

Auction House

Moderate — NFA expertise varies; custody often not transferred, leading to gaps and delays.

Guardian Concierge

Low — FFL/SOT custody & documented chain of compliance; Guardian manages transfers and paperwork.

Net Proceeds (Typical)

Self-Service

Lower — limited buyer reach and ad-hoc marketing reduce realized prices despite low fees.

Auction House

Mixed — broad reach, but 15–25% seller fees and buyer premiums erode what the estate nets.

Guardian Concierge

Higher — targeted NFA buyers and market-based pricing with a single transparent fee.

Timeline

Self-Service

Variable — depends on executor bandwidth, buyer discovery, shipping, and form knowledge.

Auction House

Fixed cycles — tied to catalog dates; funds released after settlement and paperwork.

Guardian Concierge

Rolling — items marketed and transferred continuously as each transfer clears.

Executor Liability

Self-Service

High — personal custody and paperwork risk; insurance may not cover NFA mishandling.

Auction House

Moderate — estate often still responsible until disposition; custody rarely assumed.

Guardian Concierge

Low — custody transfer to Guardian and insured storage reduce exposure.

Storage & Security

Self-Service

Executor must store lawfully and safely during probate — often impractical or uninsured.

Auction House

Varies — NFA-appropriate storage/insurance not guaranteed; may add cost or delay.

Guardian Concierge

Secure, insured storage until transfer with full chain-of-custody documentation.

Hands-On Support

Self-Service

DIY forms, shipping, buyer vetting, and record-keeping handled by the executor.

Auction House

Limited — catalog and sale; compliance assistance varies by house and state.

Guardian Concierge

End-to-end: intake → valuation → marketing → transfer → closeout packet for probate.

Buyer Reach

Self-Service

Limited — local or ad-hoc contacts; harder to access vetted NFA collectors.

Auction House

Broad — large audience, though not always NFA-specific; premiums can affect bids.

Guardian Concierge

Targeted — discreet outreach to vetted NFA collectors/dealers to maximize realized value.

Documentation & Closeout

Self-Service

DIY records; probate support is limited and often incomplete.

Auction House

Basic sale documents; limited estate closeout support beyond the hammer price.

Guardian Concierge

Full settlement packet — proceeds distribution, compliance documents, and final inventory.
